Catalina Casino offers two narrated walking tours—Discover the Casino and Behind the Scenes Casino. Each gives you a unique perspective of this Art Deco masterpiece, from the first theatre built specifically for “talkies” on the lower level, to the world’s largest circular ballroom on the top level, where thousands once danced the night away to the sounds of big band music. The greatest number of dancers ever in the Catalina Casino was 6,200 people dancing to the music of Kay Kyser, on May 8, 1940. Virtually every Big Band of that era played in the Catalina Casino Ballroom. Live broadcasts were carried over CBS radio from 1934 into the 1950s. Although the Big Bands have long faded away, the Catalina Casino Ballroom still attracts crowds for celebrations of all Catalina Casino is an iconic landmark in the City of Avalon on Catalina Island.
